Besides all the usual great wares, they will be selling Batik fabric and Bolgaatanga Baskets!

I’m sorry, I couldn’t get this flyer to fit the page perfectly. I select medium size format and it’s too small but large size format cuts off the right hand side! I think you can read all the pertinent information.

STEPHANIE GRUBBS

“Very hard labor is required to change soft wool fibers into solid form.  Felt takes the imprint of the maker to become something new, yet the wool always has a say in the form it takes.  It can be soft and filmy or thick and hard enough to serve as a shelter.”   Stephanie Grubbs, a fiber artist from Edmond, OK, has been weaving, stitching, knotting, felting and making paper for over 35 years.  We are pleased to share her unique, beautifully crafted work with you.

UK/OK Exploring Traditions in Contemporary Design

August 3rd, 2009 FAO No comments
UKOK
EXHIBITION OPENING
Friday, August 7, 2009
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Price Tower Arts Center
510 Dewey Avenue
Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Handmade crafts have been around for generations but only recently has the question been asked, “When is craft elevated to high design?”
“UK/OK: Exploring Traditions in Contemporary Design” will be on display from August 7, 2009 to January 3, 2010 at the Price Tower Arts Center. This exhibit celebrates the work of nearly seventy artists and designers working in areas of handmade design and “high craft” across Oklahoma and in the countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Emanating from a curiosity of cross-cultural comparisons, UK/OK examines contemporary British and Oklahoman designers through the lens of “traditions” – in technique, materials, and influences. The focus of the exhibition is the recent resurgence in handcrafted design and those working within the fields of metals, book making, ceramics, stone, glass, embroidery, quilting, apparel, woodworking, basketry, woodblock printing, and jewelry.
We are proud to announce that 9 members of FAO have work in this exhibit.
Stephanie Grubbs, Edmond, fiber

Nicole Moan, OKC, ceramic corsets
