July 12, 2013  through August 23, 2013

Arts and Humanities Hardesty Art Center, Boston and Archer Tulsa, Oklahoma

[ Videography by David Anderson and Lyn Lucas ]

Open to all fiber artists in the state of Oklahoma, including weaving, spinning, embroidery, basketry, felting, papermaking, dyeing, rug hooking, lace-making, beading and quilting.

The juror will be Barbara Shapiro, whose works cover a wide spectrum of the fiber arts.  Her website is www.barbara-shapiro.com Involved in textiles from an early age, Barbara Shapiro began weaving in 1975 in New York City. Barbara combines her rich knowledge of historical and ethnic textiles with wide technical experience in weaving and surface design. Her weaving reflects her travels and studies as well as her work in theater costume design. After being involved in the San Francisco Art to Wear movement in the 1970s and 1980s, Barbara shifted her focus to non-functional textile art.  Barbara’s wall pieces speak of historic textiles of many cultures, burnished with the patina of time and imbued with a very personal sense of beauty. Through her many publications, workshops, and lectures, Barbara shares her knowledge as an educator and writer. She also serves on the boards of the Textile Society of America and Textile Arts Council of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and is a docent at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art. Jury selection is done from the actual pieces. You will be allowed to enter 3 pieces for a non-refundable fee of $15 for members of Fiber Artists of Oklahoma or $25 for non-members. Works will be accepted for the jury process on Sunday, July 7 and Monday, July 8 at the AHHA Gallery at Boston and Archer in Tulsa.
